Wednesday night Olympia update: no action on teacher evaluations

3/13/2014

From OurVoice WEA...

The state House and Senate both recessed Wednesday night without voting on a supplemental budget or either of the two bills that mandate the use of state tests in teacher evaluations (which WEA members oppose). Both chambers reconvene Thursday, March 13, at 10 a.m., the last day of the 2014 legislative session.

In the House Wednesday, Senate Bill 6552 passed with an amendment that the Senate has agreed to approve. The bill includes the 1,080 instructional hour delay, district averaging, and repurposing of the $97 million in related funding. The amendment was crafted by Democrats who wanted to make sure the implementation of 24-credit graduation requirement was fair for kids and flexible. Details will be forthcoming, but here is the latest bill report.
