Over the last month, more than 100 Valley educators helped canvass over 8,000 homes and wrote 6 letters to the editor in support of our local levies. Check out the letters: SVEA has committed to help Snoqualmie Valley Citizens for Schools (SVCS) reach 5,000 voters before election day on February 13. To accomplish this task, it'll take the help of at many of our members. Sign up using a personal device at signup.com/go/uKOeUTP. Volunteers will spend 90 minutes hanging door signs on voters' doors around your school. No phone calling, no door knocking, no talking... just reaching out with much needed information and encouragement to vote. Each school has a couple designated days. If you cannot help on your school's day, please help out another school. Kids are welcome to join! With the changes in state school funding that still leave many areas underfunded (nurses, instructional coaches, 4-12 class size, counselors, technology...) we need these levies to pass. Without them, students and staff will have to do with less in the classroom. Please help the district, yourself, and your students by signing up to distribute door hangers. Our kids are worth it! Mark your calendar for our back to school general membership meeting. The district will be providing a BBQ lunch for staff on Thursday, August 24. Our meeting will take place immediately before or after lunch.
We will be providing information about upcoming changes to our salaries, benefits, and more due to recent legislation. Take a peek at the changes to pay, health care, class sizes, testing, and pro-cert on OurVoice. Enjoy your summer and see you August 24! Along with attract and retain stipends, a 2% TRI increase, and improved elementary class size language, our 2016-2019 contract finally allows SVEA members use of personal leave around holidays and vacation periods. Requests can be submitted beginning August 1. Below you can find details and procedures from the SVSD website.
Per article 27.2 on Personal Discretionary Leave in the SVEA contract, the following procedures have been established for requesting Personal Leave immediately before or after a holiday or vacation. Up to five (5) employees may be granted discretionary leave the day before or after a holiday or vacation period. These discretionary leaves will be granted on a first come/first served basis when requested through these established procedures.
Important Note: It is the employee's responsibility to ensure they have an adequate Discretionary Personal Leave balance (in Skyward Employee Access) before making a request. If the request for leave is approved and it is later determined that the employee does note have an adequate available Discretionary Personal Leave balance, any days taken will be processed as "unpaid leave." Welcome to our 18 newest SVSD educators! All 18 chose to become SVEA members. 17 also chose to join WEA-PAC. We are #strongertogether and #proudtobeunion!
Congratulations to our 9 SVEA retirees. Thank you for your contributions to our students, profession, and union. Enjoy your last few days of school!
Since Monday, there has been much work and collaboration to make our June 2 rally happen. Principals know that you are free to come and participate. If you are unavoidably kept from the start time, please join us when you can. Here is the plan for Friday: What: Speeches and sign-waving to encourage our community to speak up for fully funded schools When: Friday, June 2, 1-4PM Who: You, other SVEA members, support staff, secretaries, principals, administrators, school board members, parents and students (Please invite your friends and neighbors by sharing our Facebook event.) Where: Snoqualmie Ridge (Parking can be found at Cascade View ES, Ridge Street, and Kinsey Street.) Timeline
Spread the word and see you there! Our students have a right to amply funded public schools, but our legislators in Olympia haven't lived up to the McCleary promise. In response, SVEA will rally on Friday, June 2 from 1-4PM in Snoqualmie. We will rally because fully funding quality basic education for all children is Washington’s paramount duty. This includes voter-approved smaller class sizes, professional compensation, and local control of our schools. SVEA members invite community members to join us as we speak up for our students' right to fully funded schools. RSVP here. |
